QDK CD 006 BRAINDEAD Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, directed by PETER JACKSON

Peter Jackson´s third shot. This one was made in New Zealand in 1992. Braindead is so full of Gore and Splatter it would fill 2 or 3 common horror films. It gave Peter Jackson the opportunity to make bigger films for US studios. A masterpiece in film and music.

QDK LP / CD 004 HENRY, PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, directed by JOHN MC NAUGHTON

This US movie is the portrait of the mass-murder Henry Lee Lucas who became for his multiple killings between 1983 and 1987 six live sentences, two 75 year sentences and a 60 year sentence. He confessed 360 brutal slayings. This film made by John McNaughton became straight away one of the most US controversal films. It took them years to pass the US censorship. MICHAEL ROOKER as Henry and TOM TOWLES as his buddy Otis are the perfect cast for this all-time-classic-reality-horror-film. The music was composed by Steven A. Jones, Ken Hale and Robert McNaughton. Loaded with great songs of several hard-rock-bands and the score is scary.

This is the most amazing electronic music we ever heard. An electronic musical-poetic treat for children and high school-people revealing more wonders of our earth-ship. Most of Bruce Haack's music was programmed on a polyphonic music computer built by him from surplus parts furnished by Ver-Tech Radio Philadelphia. The machine was made in 18 month without diagrams or plans (Bruce Haack has never studied electronics) and will produce up to twelve simultaneous voices in changing sequence via a memory holding over four-thousand bits of information. It will also compose at random.

This is the first QDK release from 1989. Fetus Production is an avantgarde band from New Zealand. The earlier band The Fetals split into SPK and Fetus Production. Jed Town, the genius who is creating all music, recorded the tracks in New Zealand and Australia. The music is melodic art-rock or electronic avandgarde combined with heavy visuals. Heavy experimental compositions but in tradition of Beatles Helter Skelter. Jed Town can sing like an angel, thats for shure, an angel with a midi sampler instead of a harp. All time favoured.

QDK CD 007 DRONE The Fat Controller

Drone is a band from New Zealand and working in the same direction as Fetus Productions. They combine a classical minimal music background with new experimental pop tunes. Recorded in Auckland 1990. They use accoustic instruments such as piano, cello and violins plus lots of electronic devises. If you like This Heat, The Residents and John Adams, this is the right music for you. They have released 2 albums and 2 singles before in New Zealand and this is some of their best new work. It is not as heavy as most of the European artmusic. It has the New Zealand sunshine in it.

QDK SINGLE 005 IMAGE IN GLASS Part One

This Single was an offshot made during the mixing session of HENRY, PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER. Jed Town from FETUS PRODUCTIONS mixed that album in London 1991. We had some time left and played arround with sounds and samples. The result was this single released shortly after the session. An imaginary soundscape.

QDK MAXI 015 TULIP, DIE SINGENDE TULPE In The Holy Land

The QDK house-band from Hamburg, Germany. This first MAXI was released Christmas 1996. 3 musicians, dressed as TULIP, TOADSTOOL and GLOWWORM perform their program on stage like a theatre play. The music is sad and dark and sometimes funny. They sing in German and English. Catchy poptunes leading into music of the middleage. The words are createt in cutup-style in the tradition of Dadaism.

QDK LP/CD 019 TULIP, DIE SINGENDE TULPE Eden Auf Erden

The first fulllength album of above band. 25 great songs that make you cry and laugh. Holger Steen, The Singing Tulip is creating a complete own world with his music. We never heard such a thing. Musically it leads you into the Middleage, songs as beautifull as Minnesongs and as heavy and dark as The Residents. They don´t like this comparison but we think thats how it sounds. The tradition of bands such as CAN and KRAFTWERK influenced TULIP.

PING - The Castle Massacre, Norway 2005 (QDK-MEDIA 048)
Ping aren't short of creative ideas at all. Founded by Jørgen Greiner (Bass, Vocals) and Mattis Janitz (Guitar) in 1999 in Bergen, Norway, Ping offers on their most recent album a variety of different styles feeling like a hell of a roller coaster ride. No song like the other, one glides past boundaries of musical styles, sees the laws of harmony turned upside down and put on their feet again and looking for a common form of songs is of no avail. The unusual use of different instruments and the elctronically altered voice is explicitly desired.
Looking for possible resemblance's with Ping's Prog-Electro-Punk-Jazz-Mix, you won't be able to find one name working for all of the 15 songs. The opening song “Bow To The Beagle“ seams to quote electronic pioneer Bruce Haack. “Anyway But Now“ juggles around Progrock motifs like Ween used to. “Blue Velvet Rope“ dances in a 70's-Funk pace. The title song reminds of early Genesis, “The Skating Hall“ of 10CC and “Comoneverybody“ with a jazzy flute and Space-Funk-Grooves of Captain Beefheart. Of course, Frank Zappa peeks around the corner quite often, for instance in “The Dog“. All these quotes, together with a powerful distinguished sound, makes this Ping album a true certified experience.
Yet this isn't enough. “Manuales“ quotes Kraftwerk , “Inside A Rock“ swings with a Reggae vibe and “Konstantinopel“ recycles even old Vaudeville traditions. But in spite of all these daring combinations of different styles, Ping don't drift away into artificial avantgarde spaces. The core of their songs is almost always an outstanding pop melody. This is why some Norwegian critics came up with another comparison: Beck (USA) and Cornelius (Japan).
Like the US American style juggler, Ping also emphasise on humour and spontaneity. This is exactly how the Duo started way back then, realising their first musical experiments in a small room with an Amiga 1200 and a 4-track recording system. One year later, these first steps were released on their debut album “It’s A Picnic“. By now, Ping have moved to Oslo, built themselves a real good modern studio and have been joined by Alexander Lindbäck (drums) and Tore Hofstad and Hans Fredheim (both keyboard specialists). Since the, the band earns enthusiastic critics all over Scandinavia for both their soundtracks for short films by Gaute Hesthagen (“Love Game“) and Maria Trovatten & Karin Jacobsen (“Tell Me Not To Worry“), and their concerts. The release of “The Castle Massacre“ finally gives us the chance to get to know this extraordinary band.
